The Wonders of Space Exploration By Ms. Janelle Wellons (Senior Mission Operations Engineer) Contents: Space exploration has taken humanity from landing astronauts on the Moon to sending probes out of our solar system. Whether it be roving around Mars, orbiting an icy giant, or observing worlds far away, many of the stories behind these amazing missions come from the operators working in the mission control center. As one of the engineers behind these wondrous missions, Janelle will share a behind-the-scenes look into the trajectory that landed her this career as well as the missions she has flown as a result. From Saturn, to the Moon, to our own planet Earth, you will learn about what makes spaceflight a true representation of the best of humanity. Dare Mighty Things! Brief history of the speaker: Janelle graduated with a B.S. in Aerospace Engineering from Massachusetts Institute of Technology and has 7 years of experience in spaceflight operations. She previously worked at the NASA Jet Propulsion Laboratory, where she was awarded the Bruce Murray Award for “inspiring students to engage in STEM, quenching their thirst for knowledge, and sparking a curiosity greater than the stars in the sky.” She currently is employed at ispace,inc. working as a Flight Director for lunar missions.
